Bord Gáis Energy's standard gas boiler service, Complete Boiler Care, costs €199 a year or €17 a month (checked 1 November 2026). It covers the first 45 minutes on site, then €25 for each extra 15 minutes, with parts extra. (Bord Gáis Energy plans, boiler care page)
Most Dublin engineers who publish a price charge €110–€135 for the same yearly gas service, going by 24 published prices re-read on 1 November 2026. Bord Gáis Energy's basic plan is €79 more than the middle Dublin price of €120 (our sum). Its dearer plans add repair cover.
How much is a Bord Gáis boiler service?
€199 a year for the basic plan, or €17 a month. Bord Gáis Energy sells its gas boiler service as one of three plans. The service is the same in each; the dearer two add cover for repairs over the next 12 months. Prices as its service page showed them on 1 November 2026 (bordgaisenergy.ie). The page doesn't say whether VAT is included.
| Bord Gáis Energy plan | A year | Or a month | What it adds after the service |
|---|---|---|---|
| Basic: Complete Boiler Care | €199 | €17 | The service. No repair cover |
| Partial cover: Complete Boiler Care + 1 | €219 | €18.50 | Repair labour cover up to €300 for 12 months |
| Full cover: 365 Boiler Care | €249 | €21 | Parts and labour cover up to €1,200 for 12 months |
What the basic price covers: "the first 45 minutes on site. A charge of €25 for each additional 15 minutes of labour applies thereafter not including the price for parts" (Bord Gáis Energy). Cancel with less than a day's notice and the charge is €30, and the same €30 applies if the engineer can't get in (Bord Gáis Energy help page).
When we read Bord Gáis Energy's site on 22 October 2026 it showed a one-off service at €179. On 1 November 2026 the lowest price it showed was the €199 basic plan.
Bord Gáis or a local engineer: the prices side by side
A local engineer is usually cheaper for the service itself. These are the two national energy companies that publish a service price, six Dublin engineers who publish one for all of Dublin, and the middle of all 24 Dublin prices. Every figure was read on the business's own website on 1 November 2026.

What does the Bord Gáis service include?
19 checks and tests, which Bord Gáis Energy says follow I.S. 813:2017, the national standard for domestic gas installations (Bord Gáis Energy). In its own grouping:
- Initial safety checks (1 to 4). Where the boiler is and its condition, the flue, the ventilation and an electrical safety test.
- Combustion parts (5 to 10). Isolating valves, the fan, the heat exchanger, the burners and injectors, the ignition electrodes and the flame picture.
- Re-commissioning tests (11 to 17). Temperature control, the safety devices, the gas rate, burner pressure, an air intake sample, a flue gas analysis and the gas safety tests.
- Final touches (18 and 19). Time and temperature controls set, and an RGI appliance conformance certificate left with you.
That's the same ground a full service from a local RGI should cover. The flue gas analysis and the certificate are the two to ask any engineer about. Bord Gáis Energy gives a 30-day guarantee on its work, and says repairs found during the service aren't covered by the service price (Bord Gáis Energy). The full checklist for any engineer is on what's included in a boiler service.
Is a Bord Gáis boiler care plan worth it?
It depends on whether the boiler breaks in the next 12 months. 365 Boiler Care costs €249, €50 more than the basic plan, and covers parts and labour up to €1,200 for 12 months after the service. Without cover, Bord Gáis Energy's FAQ names a €199 call-out fee for a repair appointment (Bord Gáis Energy), and its repair with a service included is €299 (repair page).
- A young boiler. Check what the maker's warranty already covers before you pay for cover on top.
- An older boiler. Cover is worth more the likelier a repair is. Ask what parts are excluded: Bord Gáis Energy publishes a list of parts not covered under 365 Boiler Care.
- Compare the service alone. Most Dublin engineers charge €110–€135 for the service. Dublin call-outs for a repair start at €80 (repair prices).
Do you need to be a Bord Gáis customer?
Its pages don't say so. Neither the service page nor the boiler care page, read on 1 November 2026, says you must buy gas or electricity from Bord Gáis Energy to book a service; you pay up front, monthly, or on a services account. Energia's page asks the same question about its own service and doesn't answer it (Energia). If it matters to you, ask when you book.
Where does Bord Gáis service boilers?
In Dublin, Cork, Galway, Limerick, Waterford, Kildare, Wicklow and Kilkenny, "subject to engineer availability in your area" (Bord Gáis Energy). Energia's Smart Home Store offer is for Leinster and Cork only (Energia).
Does Bord Gáis service oil boilers?
No. "Bord Gáis Energy does not currently service oil boilers" (Bord Gáis Energy), and Energia's offer excludes oil boilers and back boilers (Energia). An oil boiler is serviced by an OFTEC-registered technician: published Dublin oil prices run €80 to €220. See oil boiler service and oil boilers in Dublin.
How long does a Bord Gáis boiler service take?
"Around 45–60 minutes", Bord Gáis Energy says, depending on the type and condition of the boiler (Bord Gáis Energy). The basic price covers 45 of them. Energia says its service takes about 45 minutes (Energia).
Whoever you book, check they're an RGI
Bord Gáis Energy says all its gas boiler engineers are RGI-certified (Bord Gáis Energy). That isn't a Bord Gáis extra: by law, anyone who services a gas boiler in your home must be a Registered Gas Installer (CRU). Check any engineer's name on rgi.ie. The steps are on how to check a Registered Gas Installer.
Need a new boiler, not a service?
That's a replacement job, priced differently. Dublin replacement prices, combi swaps and grants are on our sister site, boilerreplacementdublin.ie.
The law
Only an RGI works on gas
By law, only a Registered Gas Installer (RGI) can work on a gas boiler in your home (CRU). The register is run by Safe Energy Ireland for the CRU. Ask to see the engineer's RGI ID card, or check their name on rgi.ie.

Price, time and who rings
What will it cost?
Most Dublin engineers charge €110–€135 for a gas boiler service, and published oil service prices run €80 to €220 (re-read 1 November 2026). The engineer gives you a price on the phone, before anything is booked.
Is VAT in the price?
Often the price doesn't say. Only 3 of the businesses we checked state it, so ask for the price with VAT.
How long does the service take?
Most gas boiler services take around 45 to 60 minutes, Bord Gáis Energy says. An older boiler, or one in a tight hot press, can take longer.
Does sending this commit me to anything?
No. It's free, and nothing is booked until you agree a price and a time with the engineer.
Will lots of firms ring me?
No. Your details go to one boiler engineer who covers your part of Dublin, not to a list.
What if nobody rings?
Email hello@boilerservicedublin.ie with your area and we'll follow it up.
Is the engineer registered?
By law only a Registered Gas Installer can service a gas boiler. Ask for their RGI number and check it on rgi.ie: how to check. Oil boilers are OFTEC work.
