What that means for your boiler
- Oil needs OFTEC, not RGI. An oil boiler service is a new nozzle, a filter, a clean and a combustion test by an OFTEC-registered technician. Published Dublin oil prices run €80 to €220. Say it's oil when you ring, and check there's oil in the tank. See oil boiler service.
- Outdoor oil boilers. Many oil boilers are fitted outside in a weatherproof casing or in a boiler house. Clear access to it and to the tank before the technician comes.
- 1970s houses, gas conversions. A 1970s semi in Cabinteely that switched from oil to gas may still have the old regular boiler and cylinder layout. The service is the same; the flue and ventilation get checked with care.
- Sandyford apartments. Combis in the newer blocks, many still under warranty. A yearly service by a registered engineer keeps it valid.
