Common questions about boiler service dublin

How much is a boiler service in Dublin?

A gas boiler service in Dublin is €80–€199, and a typical price is about €120. An oil boiler service is €80–€220. A repair call-out is €80–€199, with parts extra.

How long does a boiler service take?

About an hour for most gas boilers, longer for an oil boiler or one that hasn't been serviced in years.

Is the engineer registered?

Gas work only goes to a Registered Gas Installer (RGI). It's the law in Ireland. Ask to see the RGI ID card: it has a photo and a registration number. Oil boilers go to an oil technician.

How fast can someone come?

The engineer rings you, usually within one working day, and agrees a time. Breakdowns are seen sooner than routine services.

Do I get a certificate?

Yes. After gas work the RGI gives you a certificate, the Declaration of Conformance. Keep it with the boiler's papers.

Is the work guaranteed?

Ask the engineer about their guarantee on the work and on any parts before you agree the price. New parts carry the maker's warranty.

Do I pay you anything?

No. Sending the form is free. You pay the engineer for the job, at the price you agree with them.

What is the difference between a quick visual check and a full annual boiler service?

A proper annual service to IS 813 (gas) or OFTEC (oil) standards takes 45 to 60 minutes and includes a gas tightness test, casing removal, cleaning the condensate trap and electrodes, checking the burner seal, testing and recharging the expansion vessel if needed, cleaning the magnetic filter, and recording a calibrated flue gas analyser printout.

Why does my boiler pressure keep dropping to zero every few weeks?

Frequent pressure drops on a sealed boiler are usually caused by a flat internal expansion vessel that causes the 3-bar pressure relief valve to vent water outside when the radiators heat up, or a minor weep on a radiator valve spindle or automatic air vent. Checking and recharging the expansion vessel during a service resolves most pressure swings.

Will skipping a year of servicing void my boiler warranty?

Yes, almost all boiler manufacturers require an annual service every 12 months by an RGII-registered installer (for gas) or OFTEC technician (for oil), with the service record filled in and flue gas readings recorded, in order to honour a 5-to-10-year parts and labour warranty.

Does an oil boiler service include a new nozzle and filter check?

Yes. Kerosene burners wear the fine brass atomising nozzle over a heating season, which degrades the spray pattern and coats the heat exchanger in soot. Every annual oil boiler service includes fitting a fresh brass nozzle, cleaning the fuel line filter and photocell, brushing the baffles, and setting combustion with a smoke pump and flue analyser.

Can a landlord gas safety check and boiler service be done in the same visit?

Yes. For Dublin rental properties and HAP inspections, an RGII installer carries out the annual boiler service, tests any gas hob or fire in the property, checks ventilation and carbon monoxide alarms, and issues the signed RGII Declaration of Conformance certificate in one visit.

When is the best time of year to book a boiler service in Dublin?

Late spring through early autumn (April to September) offers the fastest appointment slots before the first cold snap in October triggers peak winter breakdown callouts. Servicing before autumn also catches worn ignition electrodes or low expansion vessel charge before the heating goes on full time.
